Current happenings (May 2025)

Hello. I've decided that in addition to occasional blog posts that focus on specific topics, I want to start doing a regular monthly "now" entry. These will be a rough summary of what I've been doing and what I plan to do during the current month.

I think this will be a great way for me to update my family, friends, and online buddies on what I have been up to when I eventually move away from the nest and into adulthood. Eventually when I'm maybe 30 and wrinkly (no offence to 30-year-olds, again), I hope I can look back on this with either fondness or horror.

In just over a month, I will graduate high school with my diploma. I'm very excited to be finally done with all of this nonsense. As some kind of celebration of this, grad class started a "Spy vs. Spy" activity, which I am not engaging in. The premise is that you purchase a ticket to participate and you are assigned a target. You are also a target of someone else, whose identity is concealed from you. You must shoot your target with a water gun while evading whoever is pursuing you over the course of week-long rounds. This activity is not permitted during class time, but once you leave the school, it's open season. Whoever wins--by successfully taking down their target and not getting shot themselves--wins the cash prize.

This seems pretty dangerous and dare I say, stupid. Students have been doxxing each other and camping outside of people's homes, cars, workplaces, etc. Apparently some kid got the cops called on him at the mall because he was stalking outside waiting for his target to leave. Once she got past the front doors, he chased her down and nearby bystanders, unaware of this game, called 911. Yikes. To be honest, I don't know why any of these kids want to simulate having the opps pull up on you.

As for what media I am currently enjoying: I've been getting many Yellowjackets edits on my TikTok FYP (hence the image above this post). I know the general premise of the TV show but I have yet to actually watch it in full. My friend keeps trying to get me into it, tempting me with the lure of lesbian cannibals. Perhaps later. Right now I'm watching the second season of The Last of Us, which gutted me emotionally. There's 4 episodes left in this season I think. It's gonna be a rollercoaster.

I've also been listening to a lot of Keshi. I was previously under the impression that his work was sad "Asian fuckboy" music--whatever that means--but I really took a liking to him. He has a unique blend of lo-fi, indie rock, R&B, and pop influences across his tracks, and it scratches the right itch in my brain. Go stream "Requiem".

I may be starting a new job soon with this 3D printing company, since my original gig hasn't been giving me regular shifts anymore. We'll see how that goes. Apparently it involves some assembly, trouble-shooting, and other menial tasks; which seems simple enough for me. Despite my earlier fears and hesitations about driving, I am grateful that I can get from point A to B independently now, especially since this company's office is quite far from my home.

A very stress-inducing ordeal for me this month was trying to get my physical/digital ID card for university. They required me to submit documentation to verify my identity and citizenship, but wouldn't accept anything that I gave them. I gave them my birth certificate, which was denied because my parents' birthplaces, listed on the document, are outside of Canada. I'm curious to know the reasoning behind this particular protocol.

I wanted to submit my passport--the easiest option--but that was expired and my mother really didn't want to fish out $150+ for a renewal. Pair that with an office that wouldn't pick up their phone after several calls and ignored emails, and I was exhausted with this process. I was on the brink of giving up, until my mother managed to get through and started basically bullying the staff into submission. It was quite embarrassing and unwarranted but hey, at least now I have my credentials. I'm very sorry to the office.

For the rest of this month, I'll be working on scholarship, grant, and loan applications (tedious) for university, cleaning my room, finalizing any necessary details and stuff for school and rez, and preparing for my valedictory ceremony. For said ceremony, myself and a bunch of my musically-inclined friends will be performing Somewhere Only We Know by Keane--which my mom really likes. For once, it's rewarding to be a band kid.

That's all for now.
